Functional Skills courses in Maths and English

In conjunction with Hertfordshire Adult and Family Learning, we are offering City and Guilds Functional Skills Courses in Maths and/or English for parents and carers who do not currently have a GCSE qualification in these subjects. The courses offer a chance to develop your skills in a relaxed and fun way, working in a group with similar interests and gain a nationally recognised City and Guilds qualification. Both courses run weekly over 24 weeks of the school year. Exams are taken during and at the end of the course so learners will need to be able to attend the course every week.

Learners will be assessed at the beginning to see whether they should enter at level one or level two. A level two pass is equivalent to a grade 4 pass at GCSE )(previously a pass at grade C). Students achieving a level one pass may wish to continue studying to take the level two examination.

NB There is a registration charge of £5 per learner per course.

We are intending to hold an Introduction and Information session for anyone who is interested in enrolling on the 24 week English Functional Skills course to come along, meet the tutor, ask questions and find out if this is the right course for you.  If not, we will direct you to courses that will be suitable. Your skills will be assessed and you will progress at an appropriate level.  *You may need to start at Level 1 rather than Level 2.

To register your interest in either of these courses contact or call 01727 754113.

"Ingrid is an excellent teacher who prepares for lessons well and structures the lessons to ensure a variety of forms of learning. For me the content is quite challenging as the class includes some very capable pupils, but hopefully I am able to keep up and gradually improve my German. It certainly helps me when I have to travel on business to our office based in Munich." SS

'As a teacher myself, I would thoroughly recommend Ingrid's Advanced German class. The atmosphere is friendly and we certainly learn a lot. Virtually the entire lesson is conducted in German, which really helps our understanding, yet the work is still differentiated for different abilities. We discuss some really interesting topics, often of our own choice, and these discussions are supplemented by the use of German youtube clips, films and articles.' NA

See what previous students have said about the teacher:

"This evening class has been a real find. For those of us who prefer face to face tuition over self-teaching, it has been a great way to spend a Monday evening. The teacher is excellent, we pick up grammar as we go along and after one year we can converse on everyday topics in German. I'm looking forward to learning even more next year."

I have enjoyed learning German (just for pleasure) although it has not always been easy!  Ingrid is helpful and patient, especially when struggling, and the fellow students also help and support each other.
