Feedback from students of earlier courses:

"AnnMarie's relaxed and encouring approach was just the tonic needed to give me the confidence to pick up a brush and just have a go. This easy going approach also left room for us, her pupils, to develop our own painting style...Great course!"

"I have attended several of the BeauSandVer consortium art classes and have enjoyed every one. The teaching standards are high, the tutors very professional and welcoming. The classes provide not only technical skills but also creative direction and inspiration. Having access to these sorts of facilities on my doorstep is fantastic and has allowed me to return to something I loved to do but over the years fell by the wayside. I would highly recommend the courses to anyone who would like to improve, begin or just get back into art." MO

"I really enjoyed the introductory course...AnnMarie gave us lots of info in a short space of time... is very encouraging at all times, never critical and generous with her materials and advice."

Latin is a unique gateway both to the rich culture of the Classical world and to a deeper understanding of this country’s heritage and language.  It is a fascinating experience to be able to read the words of authors from two thousand years ago in the original Latin and to learn more of the myths, history, battles and love affairs of the Ancient Romans.

This class assumes no previous knowledge of Latin and will focus on learning to read plays, stories and historical accounts in Latin.

We shall follow the well-established “Reading Latin” course, by Jones and Sidwell, specially designed for adult beginners.

You will need to buy copies of the Reading Latin Text and Grammar (both together around £20 second-hand on Amazon) and to bring writing materials.

Dr Clare Harvey currently teaches Latin and Classical Civilisation at Watford Grammar School for Boys, has had articles published in the Journal of Classics Teaching and is a member of the Roman Society Schools Committee

This course, run in conjunction with HAFLS ( Hertfordshire Adult and Family Learning), will be running for five weeks after half term.

It's ideal for anyone who has been out of work for some time and would like some help in preparing for the job market.

IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN TAKING THIS COURSE AS A SATURDAY WORKSHOP PLEASE CONTACT US.

Chinese Brush Painting is an ancient art form that allows you to create beautiful paintings with a few brush strokes.  You will capture the "inner spirit"  of painting and be stunned by the quick results you achieve.

On this one-day Saturday workshop you will learn to paint by making your own ink, be taught how to hold your brush correctly and execute the basic brush strokes needed to create simple animals, fish, birds and landscape style images. By the end of the afternoon you will have created three or four small pictures which you can then frame.

For the fee of £55 which includes tuition, we provide you with a basic set comprising slate grinder, black ink sticks and a goat hair brush which you can take away with you to keep working on your own. We also supply the practice paper you need to work on to develop your skills and some good quality paper on which to paint your final pieces which will be 6" by 4".

Wilkinsons sells decent basic frames with a mount that will display three 6"x 4" images, currently priced at £7.99 should you wish to buy one and bring with you to frame your work.

You will need to bring with you some scissors, a plastic water pot (which can be an old yogurt pot or similar), newspaper and lots of paper towels.  As the class continues through lunchtime, please bring a packed lunch and drinks with you.

This is a beautiful way to learn to paint, ideal for de-stressing and relaxing.

  • I don’t know how Alex is able to make us sound so lovely.  We are so lucky to have  Alex and Nicolas -  I  am always in awe of their talent!  My mother came to listen and she absolutely loved every minute of the concert and thought it was fantastic.  (She has been listening to choirs all her life and she was really impressed – she also loved Alex’s organ recital!!) SA
  • I think it's fantastic. Pitched at just the right level and very well attended, but the choir master is the star - so enthusiastic and good at the job! SH
  • I have never really sung in a choir before – I think that Alex is absolutely fantastic, massively talented and such a brilliant teacher. Definitely on a par with Gareth Malone (they must be from the same mould!!!) I enjoy every minute of the session. AS

  • Alex is an extremely able and motivating teacher as well as a talented composer of his own choral arrangements. He concentrates on the detailed nuances of pieces and helps us to hone our performances." AR
